Professional Patient Line Without a Second Device

Solo practice in neuropsychology means handling everything yourself scheduling, follow-ups, patient communication all of it. For a long time that also meant everything coming through one personal number, which wasn't ideal from a compliance or a boundary standpoint. Switched to iPlum about ten months ago and it fixed both problems at once... Patients reach the practice through the iPlum number, calls and texts come through the app, and nothing bleeds into personal contacts. The HIPAA-compliant messaging piece was the deciding factor for me that's not optional in my field. The web portal layout is a little cluttered, took some clicking around before things made sense, but the core features have worked without any hiccups since day one. For a solo provider it's a genuinely practical setup.

Work Calls Stay in the App, Personal Life Stays Mine

Running a recovery coaching practice solo means being reachable is part of the job but reachable on my own terms. Giving clients my personal number never felt right, especially in this field where boundaries matter more than almost anywhere else. Found iPlum through an online coaching forum about eight months ago and it's handled that separation really well ever since. Clients call and text the business number, everything comes through the app, and my personal line stays clear. The business hours feature has honestly been one of the most useful things after 8pm calls roll to voicemail automatically and I stop feeling like I'm on call around the clock. Setting up the voicemail greeting took a couple of tries to get sounding right, but that was more me being picky than any issue with the app. Works exactly the way I needed it to.

Exactly What a Solo Counselor Needs for Separate Communication

I've been doing rehabilitation counseling for going on six years and went out on my own about two years ago. One of the first things I needed was a separate business line that wasn't going to cost me a second phone plan every month. A friend mentioned iPlum and I've been on it for close to a year now. The HIPAA compliance piece was non-negotiable for me given the clients I work with. I needed secure messaging and call handling that I could actually document if needed. iPlum covers that at a price point that makes sense for a small solo practice. The one thing I'll mention is that the first time I tried setting up the auto-attendant I had to watch a quick tutorial to get it right not hard, just not immediately obvious. After that it's been running without any issues whatsoever.

My Personal Number Stays Personal Now

I do trauma-focused counseling and I've always been careful about professional boundaries, but phone communication was honestly a weak spot for a long time. Clients had my personal number, which meant no real separation between work and home life. I switched to iPlum about eight months ago and that problem is basically solved. Clients call and text the iPlum number, I manage everything through the app, and my personal contacts are completely separate. The secure messaging piece matters in my line of work and iPlum handles it without me needing to ask clients to download a special app on their end that was a concern I had before I tried it. I will say the notification settings took a little digging to customize the way I wanted, but I found what I needed eventually. Worth the small learning curve.

HIPAA-Compliant Without the Enterprise Price Tag

I prescribe medication as part of my mental health practice and patient communication especially around medication questions needs to be handled carefully from a compliance standpoint. I looked at a few different options before landing on iPlum about ten months ago. Most alternatives were either too expensive for a solo practitioner or didn't actually address HIPAA in any meaningful way. iPlum hit the right balance. Secure messaging, call documentation, voicemail transcription all there at a price that makes sense for someone running a small independent practice. I also appreciate that patients don't have to download anything on their end, they just text or call the number like normal. One thing though the web dashboard took me a bit to get comfortable with, some of the settings aren't where you'd expect them but once I had everything configured I haven't needed to go back in much. Solid choice for solo providers.

One Number for Parent Communication, One for My Personal Life

I work primarily with kids, which means most of my communication is actually with parents. And parents text. A lot. I was getting messages from parents on my personal phone constantly scheduling questions, updates about their child, all of it mixed together. I signed up for iPlum about seven months ago just to get that off my personal line and onto something dedicated. It's been a straightforward fix. Parents have the iPlum number, I respond through the app, and my personal phone feels like mine again. The auto-reply feature is something I use when I'm in session so parents know I'll get back to them that alone has saved me a lot of

Clients Reach Me on the Work Number, Not My Private One

I specialize in grief counseling and the nature of my work means clients sometimes need to reach out between sessions that's just part of it. But having those calls come through my personal number at any hour wasn't a boundary I wanted to keep blurring. Got iPlum about nine months ago and it's made that boundary a lot cleaner. I set business hours through the app so after 7pm calls go straight to a voicemail that sounds professional and reassuring. Clients still feel like they can reach out and I'm not getting woken up at midnight. The voicemail transcription feature is really useful too I can see a message quickly and decide if it needs a callback or can wait until morning. Setup was a little involved, I won't lie took me a good 30 minutes to figure out all the settings but the result has been worth it.

Stopped Giving My Personal Number to Every New Client

I run a small art therapy practice out of a shared studio space and for the first couple years I just used my personal cell for everything. Client calls, session reminders, rescheduling all coming through one number. It wasn't sustainable. I started using iPlum about eight months ago after another therapist in my building recommended it and it's been a really clean solution for keeping things separate. The HIPAA-compliant messaging is what I needed most. My clients are dealing with some pretty sensitive stuff and I wanted to make sure our communication had some level of protection beyond just a regular text. iPlum handles that without me needing to explain a complicated app to clients they just text my business number like normal. The only thing I noticed early on is that switching between my personal texts and the iPlum inbox takes a little getting used to, but honestly after a few days it became second nature. No real issues since.

Worth It Just for the Peace of Mind on Compliance

I opened my own practice about two years ago and figuring out HIPAA-compliant communication was one of the more stressful parts of getting set up. Most options I looked at were either expensive or felt like overkill for a solo practitioner. iPlum was straightforward and affordable, and I've been using it for close to a year now without any issues. I give every client the iPlum number for calls and texts. Everything stays within the app, separate from my personal contacts, and I don't worry about compliance the way I used to. The web portal is decent for managing settings, though it took me a session or two to get comfortable with the layout it's not immediately obvious where everything lives. That said, once it's set up you barely have to touch it. Really good fit for small or solo practices.

Keeps My Research Contacts Off My Personal Phone

I do a mix of academic research and freelance consulting and I interview a lot of people subject matter experts, study participants, stakeholders. All of that was going through my personal number and it was getting messy. A colleague in my department mentioned iPlum so I tried it about seven months ago. It's been a clean fix. I give out the iPlum number for research-related calls and texts, everything comes through the app, and my personal line stays clear. Voicemail transcription is something I use constantly it's faster than listening to every message and I can search back through them. The app design is a bit plain and not super intuitive at first glance, but it's reliable and I haven't had any real problems with it. Does the job without any fuss.

Parents Call This Number, Not My Personal One

I'm a counselor at a small private school and parents used to have my personal cell, which meant calls and texts at pretty much any hour about their kids. Got iPlum about seven months ago to set up a dedicated line and it's made a big difference in how I manage that. Parents call the school counseling number, I pick up through the app during school hours, and after hours it goes to voicemail. The voicemail transcription feature is genuinely useful I can check messages quickly without having to listen to every one. I had a brief moment of confusion when setting up the auto-attendant but a quick chat with customer support sorted it out fast. Nothing complicated once you know where to look. Solid app for anyone in a helping profession who needs a bit more structure around their availability.

Separate Line for Study Participants Was Long Overdue

I coordinate clinical studies and participant communication is a big part of the job appointment reminders, follow-up messages, screening calls. For a while I was using my work-issued phone for all of it, but when I went independent that wasn't an option anymore. Got iPlum about six months ago and it filled that gap nicely. The secure messaging is important given the nature of the participants I'm working with, and iPlum handles that without me having to set up anything complicated. Auto-reminders and the ability to keep a clean text thread with each participant has genuinely helped me stay organized. Initial setup was a bit more involved than I expected probably 45 minutes to get everything the way I wanted but it's been low-maintenance since then. Fair price for what it offers.

Keeps My Work Line Separate and My Head Clearer

I've been a substance abuse counselor for going on eight years and boundary management is something I take seriously, including with phone communication. Having clients text my personal number was never something I was fully comfortable with. I found iPlum through a Facebook group for counselors and signed up maybe ten months ago now. It does what it says separate business number, HIPAA-compliant messaging, voicemail that sounds professional. I use the business hours feature a lot so calls after 7 pm go straight to voicemail. My clients are used to it now and it works cleanly. The app could probably use a visual refresh it's not the most polished thing but I've never had it crash or drop a call, and in this kind of work reliability matters way more than aesthetics.

Good HIPAA Solution That Doesn't Cost a Fortune

I share an office with two other therapists and we each needed our own compliant communication setup. One of them found iPlum and we all ended up trying it that was about six months ago and I'm still on it. It handles HIPAA-compliant texts and calls without needing a whole separate device, which was the main thing I was looking for. Clients reach me through the app number, voicemails get transcribed so I can read them between sessions, and the auto-reply feature lets me set expectations when I'm unavailable. I did have one small hiccup early on where my voicemail greeting wasn't saving correctly ended up being a settings thing I had wrong but I figured it out with the help docs. Nothing major. Would recommend it to any solo or small group practice.

One Number for Research Participants, One for My Real Life

I do UX research on a contract basis and I'm constantly recruiting participants for studies that means a lot of unfamiliar numbers texting and calling me. I didn't love the idea of all of that coming through my personal phone indefinitely. Started using iPlum about eight months ago to keep participant communication on a separate line and it's been a clean solution. I share the iPlum number in recruitment emails, participants text or call it, and everything comes through the app on my existing phone. When a study wraps I can manage that communication history without it cluttering my personal contacts. The only thing I'd mention is that the app can be a little slow to load occasionally nothing dramatic, just a second or two but call and text reliability has been fine throughout. Good practical tool for any independent researcher.
