What docunest is. docunest is a cloud platform that connects a German tax firm (Steuerberatungskanzlei) with its clients. The firm manages clients, documents, bookkeeping, invoicing and recurring work in one place. Clients use a browser portal or a mobile app to upload receipts, sign documents and see their figures.
Modules included:
- Client portal and file exchange - four modes: sending files, requesting documents through a checklist, open-item (OPOS) reconciliation, and a persistent data room with a comment thread. Access is token-based with optional password and SMS PIN, expiry dates, download limits and a full access log.
- AI bookkeeping - incoming receipts are read by OCR, classified and coded to SKR03 or SKR04, then handed to DATEV as an EXTF posting batch or through the DATEV interface. Advance payments, reverse charge under section 13b UStG, VAT splits, cash discounts and foreign currency are handled as separate cases.
- StBVV invoicing - fees are calculated from the German StBVV 2025 tables A to D and delivered as PDF/A-3 with embedded ZUGFeRD e-invoice XML.
- Tax assessment review - a filed tax return and the resulting assessment notice are compared automatically; the result lists deviations, the tax office's explanations, upcoming prepayments and whether an appeal is worth filing.
- Practice task management - Kanban boards for recurring work such as financial accounting, payroll, annual accounts and tax returns, with task series that generate the next period automatically.
- Time tracking - an offline-capable app for employees, tablet kiosk clock-in, shift planning, vacation and absence requests, and payroll export, built around German working time law (ArbZG).
How it works with DATEV. docunest connects to DATEV through the Klardaten gateway and DATEV Online. Client master data, documents from the DATEV DMS and open items are read directly, and prepared postings and documents are handed back. docunest is an interface provider and is not a DATEV product.
Deployment and availability. Cloud hosted and browser-based, with iOS and Android apps for the client portal. The interface language is German, and the platform is used by firms in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. White-label branding under a customer-owned domain is available.
