MineTwin supports open-pit and underground mining teams with production planning, equipment scheduling, fleet sizing, haulage analysis and bottleneck identification. It models mining activities such as drilling, charging, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing and hoisting while accounting for equipment availability and operational constraints. Users can validate production plans, optimize resource allocation and evaluate infrastructure or technology investments before implementation.
MineTwin uses discrete-event simulation to create detailed digital representations of mining operations. Users can test what-if scenarios, compare alternative schedules, analyze uncertainty and understand the effects of equipment interactions, queues, delays, maintenance and variable cycle times. Interactive 2D and 3D views, dashboards, timelines and reports help teams interpret results and make evidence-based operational and investment decisions.

As a Simulation Engineer, I use MineTwin to build detailed operational models for both open-pit and underground mining environments. What worked well: The software excels at rapid scenario comparison, enabling us to quickly test haulage fleet sizing, identify material handling bottlenecks, and evaluate the impact of schedule adjustments on total throughput. The visual modeling tools and scenario comparison features make presenting data-driven insights to stakeholders straightforward and impactful. Limitations: Initial setup and fine-tuning custom operational logic for unique underground layouts can require a learning curve, but once configured, the software delivers highly reliable and repeatable results.
I love the intuitive User Interface and the integration of spreadsheets for model parameterisation. I can accurately create both open pit and underground mine layouts by just using GPS data. The software is specifically designed for simulating mining operations and offers a myriad of advantages in the development process as opposed to a general simulation platform. Different mining equipment is modelled with a predefined set of properties for which I can define values and quickly have a functional model. The schedule optimizer allows me to advise clients on cost-effective operations/equipment scheduling
I use MineTwin to build, test and compare different mining scenarios before making changes to an operating plan. The Studies functionality is especially useful because I can save a structured group of experiments and rerun them when the mine plan, fleet, schedule or operating assumptions change. What I like most is that MineTwin can model much more than haulage. It can represent the wider mining cycle, including drilling, charging, blasting, development, loading, material movement and equipment interactions. This makes it possible to investigate several connected operational questions in one model. The 2D and 3D views, timelines, dashboards and detailed results also make it easier to understand why a scenario performs as it does. The main limitation is the initial setup. Creating a reliable scenario requires good data and careful work, especially when you must bring information together from mine-planning software such as Deswik or Vulcan and other operational systems. There is also a learning curve because the software offers so many settings and capabilities. Fortunately, most of this setup and integration work only needs to be completed once, after which scenarios are much easier to update and reuse. Overall, MineTwin is a practical and highly capable tool for answering a broad range of mine-planning and operational questions.
We use MineTwin on live client mine studies, both open pit and underground. What sets it apart is that it is built for mining out of the box, so you are not spending weeks coding basic mine logic on a blank canvas before you get to the real question. It already understands drifts, stopes, ore passes, and muck bays, and it models the full mining cycle, not just haulage. Starting a project is more configuration than a clean build. We import the mine layout from Deswik and the operational schedule from Excel and have a working model fast. It gets us to defensible answers quickly, like where the real bottleneck sits or whether a planned capital spend actually raises throughput. On one underground study it showed drilling, not haulage, was the constraint, which steered the client away from a multi-million-dollar ore-pass investment that would not have lifted production. Like any simulation it depends on good input data, but that is true of every tool in this space, and a real strength here is that the modeling process surfaces exactly where data needs to be collected or corrected. The other caveat is a smaller user community than general-purpose tools, but for mine operational work it is the tool I reach for.
